Our curatorial intern Reuben Friend has put together a show looking at culture and authenticity. What happens when plastic tiki replace greenstone pendants? Can Maori artists maintain the mana of traditional organic artforms when using modern man-made materials?

Art For Change Street Mural Project
Sat 7 & Sun 8 March

School students are invited to work with local street artists to transform a Lower Hutt wall into a piece of urban art. This is your chance to have an impact on your surroundings! The workshop is for under 18s, with all art materials provided. It's free, with bookings via karen.barnett@huttcity.govt.nz /

Common Ground box art

Sunday Scratch Sessions
Sundays 15,22,29 March, 1-3pm

Chill out and tune in as Secret Level DJs provide a street level soundtrack to your gallery experience. Catch DJ Voodoo (Valley All-Stars) and DJ Duz (Perth, Australia) alongside local youth DJs outside in the courtyard. If it rains, we'll move the soundsystem in to the James Coe Centre beside the courtyard. Enjoy the sound & vision!

Hit The Wall! competition
Entries due 15 March

Open to 14-25 year olds - a chance to get your work shown on our walls, in conjunction with Common Ground. Cut Collective, supported by DAC Group, have produced a wall artwork as part of the ongoing 'Hit The Wall' series showcasing graphic design. We have reserved another Hit The Wall space for the competition winner - full details here (PDF 80kb).

Tim Larkin - Letting Dwell Floor Talk
Sun 22 March, 11am-12 noon

Tim Larkin will give an exhibition floor-talk through the Letting Dwell exhibition. Find out how Larkin collaborated with photographer Peter McColl and writer Luke Feast to create an intriguing, multi-sensory experience. Take a trip through Larkin's intricate food safe models into the light, shade and memories of 'in between' spaces.
