Sean Kerr: Bruce Danced...

Sean Kerr: Bruce Danced if Victoria Sang, and Victoria Sang; so Bruce Danced | 19 March – 29 May 2011 | MEDIA RELEASE | Images by John Lake | Eyecontact review

Bruce Danced if Victoria Sang, and Victoria Sang; so Bruce Danced is the first survey of Kerr’s work, one of New Zealand's leading digital artists who has made an important impact on the area of new media and interactive art over the last 15 years.

Kerr’s work often involves ‘misbehaving’ machines and uses slapstick comedy to explore both social and technological dynamics...

The exhibition covers Kerr’s work through the period 2000–2010 and recognises the instability of media art – looking back to recreate previous works, exploiting the juxtaposition of past and present to illustrate potential trajectories between works. His interests lie in the emergent area of new media technologies, incorporating internet art, installation and sonic practices, but with a particular focus on the expectations and effects of interactivity. The exhibition is toured by Artspace and Gus Fisher Gallery, Auckland.
