Plastic Māori - A Tradition of Innovation

Rangi Kipa, Parata

14 March - 9 August 2009 | MEDIA RELEASE | REUBEN ON TV

An exploration of artworks made by Māori artists who utilise plastic and other synthetic materials. What happens when man-made products replace the customary organic materials used in Māori art? The artists in this exhibition transcend notions of 'tradition' to invest their art with renewed meaning for a changing urban and global environment.

Curated by Reuben Friend, the 2008-09 Blumhardt Foundation/Creative New Zealand Curatorial Intern.

On the weekend of 18-19 April, join in the fun with Inez Crawford's Bouncy Marae, which will be open to experience in our courtyard.

Reuben writes about the show.

Adrienne Rewi reviews Plastic Maori.
