Hit The Wall: Jae Hoon Lee

Jae Hoon Lee

Auckland-based artist Jae Hoon Lee is well known for his digital collages which he creates from images he collects as part of his daily activity. Lee often manipulates his subject matter into strangely familiar, yet contorted versions of the original – tree forms which aren’t connected to the ground, billowing skyscrapers of rubbish or seascapes with surf crashing in all directions.

Tracking comes from Lee’s travels to the Annapurna region of Nepal during late 2009 and early 2010. The work is made from images Lee took over a 30 minute period while on a trek, and while it gives a sense of the geographical personality of the region, it is not representational of any actual place.
