Work by Alan Preston
17 February - 17 June 2007
In the late 1970s Alan Preston abandoned western jewellery-making traditions in favour of utilising locally found materials and techniques. For 30 years he has worked to create body adornment inspired by, and relevant to, Aotearoa and the Pacific. In doing so, Alan Preston has provided many New Zealanders with the means to express their own identity. Made in Aotearoa features a stunning collection of work dating from 1979 to the present.
Alan Preston is the inaugural recipient of the Deane Award for Decorative Arts.
Alan Preston - Made in Aotearoa will be toured nationally by TheNewDowse from mid 2007.
