Droog
17 February - 15 April 2007
In a cheeky reply to the growing tide of minimalist, sober, inoffensive design products flooding design stores and filling glossy magazines in the early 1990s, the Dutch design collective Droog was founded on an aesthetic philosophy that seeks to trigger questions, spark discussion and elicit giggles.
These very creative beliefs have led to a range of eccentric design products that bear a highly individual character - be it mischievous, spunky or coy.
The flirtatious ‘come closer’ bench allows you to inch closer to someone you’re keen to get to know, on a sea of glass marbles. The masochistic ‘do break’ vase encourages you to throw the vase on the floor to create your own pattern on the surface. The comical ‘rag chair’ made from sweatshirts lashed together stimulates new ideas about recycling and sustainable design.
