ARTIST TALK : Philip Trusttum & SARa HUGHES

Sunday 24 August, 2 - 4pm

Come and listen to Philip Trusttum & Sara Hughes, two of New Zealand's leading contemporary artists speaking about their art practices. Both artists have work featured in A Generous Eye -Works from the Wallace Art Trust Collection exhibition currently on display. Trusttum & Hughes are established and celebrated artist with works held in significant public and private collections throughout New Zealand and we are privileged to have him speak to us at TheNewDowse.

Philip Trusttum was born in Raetihi, attended the University of Canterbury School of Fine Art and currently lives in Canterbury. He is one of New Zealand's most highly regarded contemporary painters. His works are usually on a large scale and his expressionistic use of colour and form is stunning. Some of you might know his much loved 84-metre long Passport to the New Millennium in the Christchurch Convention Centre.

Sara Hughes is an Auckland-based artist who has exhibited extensively since graduating from Elam School of Fine Arts in 2001. Her work has attracted significant attention winning many awards - most recently being the recipient of the 2008/9 Creative NZ Berlin Visual Arts Residency at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien. Iterations of pattern are a recurring theme for Sara who has become known for her use of complex and optical patterns which relate to the technologically immersed world that we live in today.
