The New Zealand Student Craft/Design Awards has been an integral annual event for students from all over New Zealand for over 20 years. Run by the Friends of The Dowse, it offers support and encouragement to tertiary students through an award scheme designed to encourage innovation, creativity and excellence in contemporary craft and design across all media. Entries are welcome in the fields of furniture, product, jewellery, glasswork, textile, craft, spatial and digital media (video/animation).The award closes at the end of the day on Sunday 4 August 2013. Late entries will not be accepted.
2013 sees the Awards partnering with ECC, a nationally-recognised lighting and furniture design company. ECC brings exceptional designs from all over the world into our homes and commercial environments, and they have stores in our main centres: Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The Friends of The Dowse thank ECC for their support.
To be eligible to enter the awards entrants must be full or part-time students currently enrolled at a New Zealand tertiary institution during 2013 or have completed the final year of their course in 2012.
ECC NZ Student Craft/Design Supreme Award
$3,000 prize money. Exhibition of the winning design at The Dowse. The winner will be flown to Wellington for the awards evening, including accommodation and breakfast for one night. The winning design will be placed on The Dowse website and will include a profile of the winner. There will be a one-page promotion of the winning entry in the Friends of the Dowse newsletter. The winner will be gifted a membership to The Friends of the Dowse.
ECC NZ Student Craft/Design Runner Up Prize (x2)
$1,000 prize money for two runner up positions. Exhibition of the runner up design at The Dowse. The runner up design imagery will be placed on The Dowse website. There will be a one-page promotion of the runner up entry in The Friends of theDowse newsletter. The two runner up winners will be gifted a membership to The Friends of the Dowse.
Highly Commended Nominations
Ten Nominated Highly Commended Entries will be selected and provided with a certificate and mention in The Friends of the Dowse newsletter and web page. Ten finalists will have their entries displayed in some form at The Dowse during the awards evening and exhibition week.
