2012 Winner

Congratulations to Overall Winner Grace Kim with They Live in A Mirror.

Grace is a 2011 Graduate from the Whitcliffe Centre in Auckland where she gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Graphic Design Major.

"A truly engaging and mysterious piece of work. Well researched, well designed and well executed 3-dimensional work that absorbs the viewer into its intriguing viewpoints. This is a cleverly crafted structure that elicits an immediate response from the viewer, 'What word do the letters construct? How did they make it? What does it look like from a different angle?' The complexity of the construction and the detail in crafting such a visual illusion is a testament to Grace's precise design process." Heather Crichton, Judge.

The Runner-up/Merit award went to Sam Stringleman with his entry Fall Off. Sam is completing a Degree in Creative Digital Manufacture at Victoria University.

“An innovative table design that combines edginess with a digital biology.” Alison Blain, Judge.

"A beautiful and elegant form that uses digital technology to create a number of surfaces – both on top of and below the table.” Heather Crichton, Judge.

The annual award is open to all students currently enrolled in a tertiary level arts, craft or design programme; as well as to students who graduated in the previous year.

Prizes: Overall Winner ($3,000) and one Merit Award ($500) and a chance to have your work displayed at The Dowse Art Museum.
